Job Title Electrical Design and Test Engineer
Job Description
  • Provide support including sustaining and working with hardware and software in the areas of design, installation, testing and troubleshooting.
    • This includes creating hardware and software system design and installation drawings and procedures, troubleshooting with electrical test equipment (i.e. voltmeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.).
  • Design unique tests fixtures and methods for advanced development test programs for the International Space Station, Orion and Commercial Crew.
  • Manage a variety of tests and experiments throughout the entire project cycle per the customer-provided statement of work.
  • Develop required test documentation such as test plans, procedures, and hazard analyses.
  • Review test data and generate detailed test reports.
  • Provide support in the Energy Systems Test Area with electrical engineering design, test and maintenance functions.
  • Maintain the high level of technical excellence for all tasks to ensure the highest quality of technical products including test setups, test operations, development setups, development operations, documentation generation, execution and close out.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience

Requirements:

  • BS degree in electrical engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of five (5) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and four (4) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. degree from an accredited engineering school.
  • Basic knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in the field, such as mechanical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, design software and tools, and office software.
  • Prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings.
  • Visualize and work with complex mechanical and electrical systems and work with others in problem solving as part of a team.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.

Preferences:

  • Familiarity with National Instruments data acquisition equipment and software (LabView) and Diadem.
  • Familiarity with CAD, instrumentation, data acquisition and controls.
  • Experience with FPGA and real time Data Acquisition and Control systems
  • Exposure to environments such as thermal, vacuum, vibration and power systems testing.
  • Exposure to power systems, battery and cell level testing including functional, off nominal and failure testing.
  • Capable of working in labs that develop and test energy systems in a safe manner by following established practices and training offered by NASA.
  • Experience planning and establishing work priorities.
  • Proficient in MS Office programs, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Familiar with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures.

Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.

Essential Functions

Work Environment:
Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements:
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines:
Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance:
Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.

Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
